From a Middle-Class Family to Entrepreneur

Rajesh Kumar Mohakud graduated as a civil engineer in 2010. Most graduates chased city jobs. Rajesh chose a different path.

He returned to his native village in Soro and started small — a mobile repair shop and a Bharat Gas agency. His goal was clear: build businesses that employ local people.

Early Struggles

Starting without capital or connections in a rural area was hard. Rajesh briefly worked salaried jobs in Balasore and Bangalore. Both times, he returned to his mission.

He is a first-generation entrepreneur from a humble background — with no family business, no safety net, and no government support in the early years.

Er. Rajesh Kumar Mohakud is a multifaceted entrepreneur who has built a diverse and thriving business empire in Odisha since 2008. Starting from a modest retail distribution unit in Gandibed, he has progressively expanded into construction, manufacturing, FMCG, dairy, and energy sectors — establishing landmark ventures such as SR Brick & Tiles Industries, SR Sai Drinks (P) Ltd., M/S SR Sai Udyog, and most notably, two fuel retail outlets under Indian Oil and Jio-BP on NH-16, Balasore. Today, as the Chairman of the SR Group of Companies, he stands as a proud example of homegrown entrepreneurship and industrial leadership in Odisha.

My Political Activities

Er. Rajesh Kumar Mohakud embarked on his political journey in 2022, contesting as a Zilla Parishad Member under the BJP banner in the Khaira Block Panchayat Election, narrowly missing victory by a slim margin of 487 votes. Undeterred, he continued to serve his constituents with dedication, regularly visiting villages, addressing local issues, and working tirelessly within the party framework. His commitment and grassroots connect were recognized in the 2024 General Elections, where he led a remarkable campaign across 37 Panchayats of the Simulia constituency, delivering a block-level lead of 3,900 votes. Entrusted with key responsibilities, he was appointed Tour In-charge for both the Bhadrak Lok Sabha and Simulia MLA candidates by the party. Currently serving as the State Treasurer of BJYM, BJP Odisha Pradesh and as Cluster In-charge for North Odisha, Er. Mohakud continues to be a dedicated, ground-level political force, committed to his party, his people, and the progress of Odisha.

Contested as ZP Member from BJP, Khaira Block. Narrowly missed by 487 votes (out of 663 NOTA votes cast). Continued active party work post-election across all villages of Khaira Block.

Led election management across 37 Panchayats of Simulia constituency, Khaira Block. Personal booth lead: 202 · Panchayat lead: 919 · Zone lead: 2,600 · Block lead: 3,900.

Er. Rajesh Kumar Mohakud’s relentless dedication to social service, entrepreneurship, and community development has earned him widespread recognition across Odisha and beyond. His journey of excellence began in 2010 with the Best Voluntary Blood Donor Award from the Blood Bank, Balasore, followed by the Best Motivator on Blood Donation honour from the Government of Odisha in 2011. Over the years, he has been celebrated with prestigious titles such as “Utkal Ratna”, “Tapasi Sanmana”, and “Yuba Udyagi”, reflecting his outstanding contributions as a young social worker and industrialist. His entrepreneurial brilliance was acknowledged at the national level when he received the Golden Star Icon Award 2022 — presented by renowned personality Jaya Prada in New Delhi — and the International Excellence Award 2023 as Dynamic Entrepreneur of the Year. His success story was also featured by the Government of Odisha in the prestigious Make in Odisha Conclave 2018 under the “I AM ODISHA” success series. Recognised by leading media houses including ABP News, Zee Odisha, and multiple regional publications, Er. Mohakud has received over 32 awards to date — a true testament to his extraordinary journey of service, leadership, and innovation.
